PRESENTATION |
It is universally recognized that learning is an essential process both for living beings and for physical machines or computational programs to be efficient in carrying out complex tasks or when working in changing environments: consequently, more and more intensive research is being dedicated to its many aspects.
Most of this research adopts a particular point of view: biological, psychological, educational, mathematical, algorithmic, computational, etc. Nevertheless, many researchers consider that perspectives coming from other scientific fields are important, sometimes critical, to produce significant advances and useful results.
LEARNING'98 is intended to provide a forum for interdisciplinary study and discussion of the different aspects of learning: during two days and a half, it will host invited lectures by well-known experts, oral presentations, poster sessions, and round tables to discuss how the different approaches can help one another.
The final goal of this technical meeting is to create a (series of) network(s) which allow a fluid interchange of different kinds of know-how to accelerate the progress along different research conceptions and lines.
TOPICS |
Original and not published papers are invited on the following subjects and topics (without excluding contributions related to additional aspects of learning):
It is expected to dedicate one session to each one of these four blocks: each session will include an invited lecture plus 2/3 oral presentations (20 m) plus 8/12 poster contributions.
The publication of a special issue of a technical journal and a book including extended versions of selected papers is under negotiation. More information to follow on http://learn98.tsc.uc3m.es.
